Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about campus tech? Here are answers to the most common questions we receive.

How will I answer my phone?

Working remotely and need to make and receive calls from your office phone? We'll need to enable "external assignment" from your computer's Mitel Connect Application.

  1. Connect to the VPN
  2. Download the Mitel Software
  3. Setup External Assignment

What if I need a printer?

As our workflows continue to move to an increasingly digital format, we would ask that you consider alternatives to printing.  Chat with CTS regarding creative ways to share and collaborate without the use of printing.

Should I transfer files to my home computer?

Employees are strongly urged to use Gordon supported software and storage services (SharePoint, OneDrive, Office365 applications, etc.) Software such as Dropbox, iCloud and Google Drive are deemed “personal” and should not be used.

A word on Data Security

As we all try to be extra helpful and accommodating during this time where there is a good amount of confusion and changing processes, please be aware that the expectation is that you would continue to adhere to what we’ve taught during information security training. COVID-19 provides an enormous opportunity for attackers to take advantage of lackadaisical security practices and they have ramped up their efforts with COVID-19 related phishing and other cyber attacks.

It is important that you:

  • Avoid putting sensitive Gordon files on a flash drive
  • Remain vigilant when responding to emails
    • A Gordon employee will never ask you to buy a gift card via email or texting
  • Store files on the Gordon cloud using tools such as SharePoint, OneDrive, and Office 365 applications
  • If you are using your home computer for Gordon related work:
    • Use a strong passphrase
    • Set the computer to lock itself after a period of 15 minutes of inactivity
    • Use an up-to-date antivirus

What about Jenzabar?

Things to consider when using Jenzabar remotely:

As anyone who uses Jenzabar will tell you, it is a very powerful tool, but can be resource intensive.  If you are attempting to use Jenzabar remotely, the best case scenario is to connect to a computer system on Gordon's campus with the application installed.  Attempting to use Jenzabar directly from a computer with a VPN connection may lead to performance issues.  Please contact CTS if you have any questions regarding this.
